Essendon Academy of Ballet

2022 -Studio celebrates is 60th Year & Michela Celebrates her 25th year

This school is strongly ballet technique based with other styles of dance such as Jazz, Contemporary, Hip Hop and Tap available.

For ballet classes, we take pride in being able to provide classes where the children are dancing with children their own age.

The technique classes are capped at 15 for the junior school so that students receive appropriate one on one time, therefore better individual coaching

All teachers are qualified.

Why dance?  Dance is one of those activities that make the right and left sides of the brain work – the artistic as well as the analytical.  Exercises are done on both sides, keeping even muscle tone throughout the body. Recent studies have shown how dance reduces the risk of Alzheimer’s due to the layering learning required – moving legs, arms and head in time with the music and in a spatial design. Imagine then what good processing skills it is doing for a young mind.

This school provides ballet classes in the Cecchetti system, an internationally recognised syllabus, for every age group up until the majors.  We start with Kindy for 3-5 yr olds, Pre-Primary for 5 yr olds, Primary for 6 yr olds and then Grade 1 to 6. From here, students can either take the major dance syllabus stream of Intermediate, Advanced 1, Advanced 2 and Diploma or there is now a new level introduced through Cecchetti Ballet Australia – Dance Spectrum for students who are more interested in Choreography. There are exams for those interested.

There are numerous Jazz classes for children between the ages of 5 and 18.   Tap is available for 6 yrs and up. Hip Hop, Contemporary and Lyrical classes are available for students from the age of 7 yrs.

There is a TV in the foyer which displays what is happening in the studio. The last week of term 1 and 3 is an OPEN WEEK when parents are invited to watch.  Photos and recording of class in not permitted.  You may take photos once class has finished.
